[2021] New Minimum Wage Rates by State
According to the Department of Labor, changes to the minimum wage will be effective on January 1st, 2021 across 25 states.
In this post, Camelo will inform employers of the 2021 minimum wage rates based on your location.

Alabama
The standard minimum wage in Alabama will remain at $7.25.
Alaska
Alaska’s minimum wage will increase from $10.19 to $10.34.
Arizona
Arizona’s minimum wage will increase from $12.00 to $12.15.
The minimum wage for tipped workers will remain at $9.
Arkansas
Arkansas’ minimum wage will increase from $10.00 to $11.00.
The minimum wage for tipped workers is $2.64.
California
California’s minimum wage will increase from $13.00 to $14.00 for employers with 26 employees or more.
California’s minimum wage will increase from $12.00 to $13.00 for employers with 25 employees or less.
Many California cities and counties have also made increases to their minimum wage in 2021:
Colorado
Colorado’s minimum wage will increase from $12.00 to $12.32.
The minimum wage for tipped workers is $9.30.
Denver will increase the minimum wage to $14.77 in 2021 and to $15.87 in 2022.
Connecticut
The standard minimum wage in Connecticut will increase from $12.00 to $13.00 on August 1, 2021.
The minimum wage for tipped workers is $6.38.
Delaware
Delaware’s minimum wage will increase from $9.25 to $10.25.
The minimum wage for tipped workers is $2.23.
District of Columbia
The standard minimum wage in District of Columbia will remain at $15.00.
Florida
Florida’s minimum wage will increase from $8.56 to $10. The Florida government plans to increase the minimum wage to $15 by 2026.
The minimum wage for tipped workers is $5.63.
Georgia
The standard minimum wage in Georgia will remain at $7.25.
The minimum wage for tipped workers is $2.13.
Hawaii
The standard minimum wage in Hawaii will remain at $10.10.
The minimum wage for tipped workers is $10.10.
Idaho
The standard minimum wage in Idaho will remain at $7.25.
The minimum wage for tipped workers is $3.35.
Illinois
Illinois’ minimum wage will increase from $10.00 to $11.00. The Illinois government plans to increase the minimum wage to $15 by 2025.
The minimum wage for tipped workers is $6.60.
Indiana
The standard minimum wage in Indiana will remain at $7.25.
The minimum wage for tipped workers is $2.13.
Iowa
The standard minimum wage in Iowa will remain at $7.25.
The minimum wage for tipped workers is $4.35.
Kansas
The standard minimum wage in Kansas will remain at $7.25.
The minimum wage for tipped workers is $2.13.
Kentucky
The standard minimum wage in Kentucky will remain at $7.25.
The minimum wage for tipped workers is $2.13.
Louisiana
The standard minimum wage in Louisiana will remain at $7.25.
The minimum wage for tipped workers is $2.13.
Maine
Maine’s minimum wage will increase from $12.00 to $12.15.

Maryland
Maryland’s minimum wage will increase to $11.75 for employers with 26 or more employees, and to $11.60 for employers with 25 or less employees.
The minimum wage for tipped workers is $3.63.
Massachusetts
Massachusetts’ minimum wage will increase from $12.75 to $13.50.
The minimum wage for tipped workers is increasing to $5.55.
Michigan
Michigan’s minimum wage will increase from $9.65 to $9.87.
The minimum wage for tipped workers is $3.67.
Minnesota
Minnesota’s minimum wage will increase to $10.08 for large employers with over $500k in annual sales, and to $8.21 for small employers with less than $500k in annual sales.
Mississippi
The standard minimum wage in Mississippi will remain at $7.25.
The minimum wage for tipped workers is $2.13.
Missouri
Missouri’s minimum wage will increase from $9.45 to $10.30.
The minimum wage for tipped workers is $4.725.
Montana
Montana’s minimum wage will increase from $8.65 to $8.75.
Small employers making less than $110k annually have to pay tipped workers $4.
Large employers making more than $110k annually have to pay tipped workers the standard minimum wage rate.
Nevada
Nevada’s minimum wage will increase from $9.00 to $9.75 on July 1, 2021.
Employers have to pay tipped employees the standard minimum wage rate.
New Hampshire
The standard minimum wage in New Hampshire will remain at $7.25.
The minimum wage for tipped workers is $3.26.
New Jersey
New Jersey’s minimum wage will increase from $11.00 to $12.00.
The minimum wage for tipped workers is increasing to $4.13.
New Mexico
New Mexico’s minimum wage will increase from $9.00 to $10.50.
The new minimum wage for tipped workers is $2.55.
New York State
The standard minimum wage in New York State will increase to $12.50.

North Carolina
The standard minimum wage in North Carolina will remain at $7.25.

The standard minimum wage in North Dakota will remain at $7.25.

Ohio’s minimum wage will increase from $8.70 to $8.80.

South Dakota’s minimum wage will increase from $9.30 to $9.45.
